Ayurvedic medicine teaches that we are ruled by three energies called doshas. These are:

  • Vata (wind)
  • Pitta (fire)
  • Kapha (earth)

Each dosha is specific to a different skin type, thus an imbalance in the doshas is easily visible on the skin.

It is important to exfoliate the dead layer of skin cells on a regular basis. Exfoliation helps to keep your skin soft and pores clean. It will prevent any acne, whiteheads and blackheads from cropping up too. Let’s take a look at all three ayurvedic dosha treatment and some effective ayurvedic tips to remove dead skin cells for all the skin type of doshas.

1. Vata Dosha Treatment

Vata Dosha is associated with wind, means it never stays still. The Vata skin type is skinny, dry and dehydrated. Winter is a difficult period for this skin type, due to the dry climate that tends to make the skin flaky. Since dry skin does not produce oil, a person with Vata skin tends to get wrinkles earlier, thus hastening the onset of skin ageing. The lack of a natural oil stay means the skin is exposed to cuts and other damage.

2. Pitta Dosha Treatment

Pitta represents water and fire. Being responsible for the body’s metabolism, Pitta dosha’s main task is to keep the digestive system in order. Pitta skin tends to be sensitive but oily, often described by skin inflammations, acne and freckles. Also, pitta skin tends to overheat, causing skin irritation. If the above symptoms describe your skin type, it is highly likely that the Pitta dosha governs you and you need to start balancing it.

3. Kapha Dosha Treatment

Kapha represented by water and earth. The energy is responsible for the flow of fluids throughout the body and its overall stability. Kapha skin tends to be oily and thick with large visible pores. Thanks to dense layers of the skin, a person with Kapha skin tends to develop face wrinkles much later on than with doshas. However, soft skin is prone to cystic acne. Due to an excess of sebum, which mixes with dirt and clogs pores. Kapha skin has a cold and damp complexion and if not appropriately addressed can often lose its glow.

Ayurvedic Tips to remove Dead Skin Cells for all Type of Doshas

Ayurvedic Tips

1. Brown Sugar

Raw sugar works best to exfoliate the dead skin on the skin as its texture is coarser and it can remove all the dead skin cells with the friction it generates when scrubbing. The scrubbing action improves circulation and makes your skin more supple and soft.

How to Use: Almond Oil and Sugar

  • Mix the Almond oil with sugar.
  • Apply this mixture on the skin and scrub in a circular motion for 4-5 minutes.
  • Then leave it on five minutes before cleaning it off with warm water.

2. Sugar and Honey

Both brown and white forms of sugar help to exfoliate the skin. The honey will help to moisturize your skin and also reverse the oxidative damage. Use this mixture to exfoliate dead skin cells on the arms and other parts of the body.

How to Use: Sugar and Honey

  • Mix both honey and sugar in an equal amount.
  • Scrub your skin for a few minutes with this and then wash it off.

3. Coffee Grounds

Exfoliate the dead skin on the legs and see them shine with hydration. This scrub can be used on the face, but very gentle scrubbing steps should be used. Like the other scrubs, the roughness of the coffee grounds removes all the dead skin cells. Coffee contains caffeine which stimulates the skin by improving blood circulation. Use this scrub on other parts of the body to get rid of cellulite too. Caffeine prevents the accumulation of fat beneath the skin – a wonderful additional benefit

How to Use: Coffee Grounds

  • Add the oil to the coffee grounds and mix it.
  • Scrub the skin with this using gentle, circular motions.
  • Keep scrubbing for 4-5 minutes and wash off the scrub with water.

4. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is an excellent choice for a homemade exfoliator for the face. It softens the dead skin so that it can be gotten rid of quickly. It also moisturizes the skin and reduces any inflammations. Use this to exfoliate the skin before shaving to make the process smoother.

How to Use: Oatmeal

  • Take 2 tbsp ground oatmeal and apply on the face and other parts of the body.
  • Gently rub in circular motions for a few minutes and then rinse your face.

5. Baking Soda

The baking soda granules can easily remove the dead skin cells from your facial skin. Its alkalinity will help to dislodge the skin cells so that they can be easily shed off. Baking soda restores your skin’s pH level. This can also be used to exfoliate dead skin from the lips.

How to Use: Baking Soda

  • Take Vitamin E capsule, baking soda and few drops of water then mix it to get a paste with medium consistency.
  • Apply this on damp face and scrub in a circular motion for 2-3 minute then rinse it off with water.
