In Ayurveda Panchakarma Treatment refers to five therapeutic measures to be undertaken for complete detoxification of the body. The Panchakarma Ayurvedic therapies include such as Vaman (Medicated Emesis), Nasyam (Nasal Instillation), Virechan (Purgation), Raktamokhshan (Blood Letting) and Basti (Enema). Panchakarma treatments are mainly indicated for an elimination of toxins from the body.

There is limited scope for relaxation because of our lifestyle is so fast and hectic. Lack of physical activity, Mental Stress, consumption of unhealthy foods, and habits such as drinking alcohol or smoking are responsible for increasing toxin levels in the body.
The buildup of toxin in the body is a precursor to several chronic illnesses such as heart diseases, diabetes, and even cancer. To prevent the risk of these illnesses we need to eliminate toxins from the body. Panchakarma is Ayurveda primary purification and detoxification treatment.
1. Vamana Treatment
Vamana is a medicated emesis therapy which removes Kapha toxins collected in the body and the respiratory tract. This treatment is especially given to people with high Kapha imbalance. Daily treatment involves loosening and mobilising the toxins to finally eliminate them.
2. Virechana Treatment
Virechana is medicated purgation therapy which removes all the Pitta toxins from the body that are accumulated in the liver and gallbladder. It completely cleanses the gastro-intestinal tract.

3. Nasya Treatment
Nasya involves administration of medicated oil through the nose to cleanse accumulated Kapha toxins from the head and neck region. Treatment of Nasya can be given for the 30 days based on the medical condition of a person.

Nasya benefits include Trigeminal Neuralgia, Bel's Palsy, improves memory and eyesight, insomnia, hyperpigmentation in the face, Hemiplegia, loss of smell and taste, frozen shoulder, migraine, stiffness of the neck, premature graying of hair, elimination of excess mucus, clarity of voice, headaches of various origins, nasal allergies, neurological dysfunctions, Paraplegiar and sinusitis.
4. Basti Treatment
Basti is known as the mother of all Panchakarma treatments. It cleanses the toxins from all the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha, through the colon. Basti is highly beneficial as a rejuvenating treatment. Medicated oil and an herbal decoction are given as the enema to clean the colon and increase the muscle tone.

5. Raktamokshana Treatment
The venesection expels vitiated blood and Pitta through blood veins and skin. Raktamokshana treatment is used to cleanse the blood and is advised only in very rare conditions.
It is NOT advised during general Panchakarma. Many Ayurveda Centers do not offer Raktamokshana due to the high risk of infection involved in blood cleansing.
